@George,

You couldnt have said it better. I dont think anyone needs anyone - if that were true, I'd build a business around this rather than try to mobilize things. But thats also the answer. Change happens when the industry as a whole makes that shift, and decides to rethink - lest it get fragmented and the entire industry goes into an experimental mode. I am just trying to facilitate it, with some of my own personal agenda :)

Spot on Vijay.

Im surprised that VC's took so long to find out what every multinational that succeeded in India found out

To sell Coke at 5 Rs and not 1 dollar
To sell a burger at 20 Rs. and not 3 dollars
Sell ERP at 10 lakhs and not 100000 dollars

To do this you have to rethink your operational processes to make it happen.

Nothing different in the VC space.

My only question is - why does it need someone like you to fix it - cant the VC's fix it themselves?

JN: Dont take it too literally. If you look at it from a fund management perspective, the comparison sticks.

I wouldnt call it "greed". Get into the qualities of humanity and try to change it and there are somethings that are neither fixable, nor scalable. It helps to get out of that thinking and to think in terms of "models"

You're absolutely right about the glaring need for a micro-VC system. However, am not sure the microfinance parallel is right.
Microfinance works because of a couple of reasons, none of which applies to small ticket VC funding, for eg. the standardisation of the product, the effect of social pressure on ensuring debt repayment and the rate of return.

I guess less greed (ie smaller management fees) and deferred equity upside is the only way to go..
